Job Purpose
• Under the overall direction of the Head of Technology to co-ordinate the use of practical resources and facilities within the Technology Department.
Key responsibilities
To ensure the maintenance of a healthy and safe working environment through:
• Actively contributing to the assessment, monitoring and review of both health and safety procedures and information resources.
• To keep up to date with guidance from CLEAPSS
• To keep to date with current procedures and practices through continuing professional development.
• The provision of technical advice and support on health and safety issues to teaching staff.
• The safe treatment and disposal of used materials including hazardous substances and responding to actual or potential hazards.
• The healthy and safe storage and accessibility of equipment and materials, ensuring stock levels are suitable for requirement.
• To carry out health and safety and risk assessments relating to equipment and workshop areas and apply guidelines from COSHH regulations where applicable.
• To assist the Technology department team with day-to-day organisation.
• To contribute to the design, development and maintenance of the department’s resources.
• To support the Technology department in ensuring the availability of suitable materials and equipment.
• To ensure both routine and non-routine checking, cleaning, maintenance, calibration, testing and repairing of equipment to the required standard. This includes organising outside agencies to carry out routine testing and maintenance.
• To assist in the preparation of practical lessons and demonstrations.
• Place and monitor orders, ensuring spending is in line with departmental policy.
• Support the head of department with keeping appropriate records of expenditure for products and services and liaising with the Finance department as appropriate.
• Give technical advice to teachers and students, assisting with practical work as appropriate
• To maintain the department’s stock of tools.
• To monitor, order and organise storage of the department’s level of stock and materials.
• To prepare materials in readiness for lessons as requested by staff.
• Contribute to the development of the department’s practical work.
• To maintain general tidiness and safe working conditions within the department area.
• To keep abreast of any developments by attending relevant courses as required by the Head of Technology.
• Assist with the use of ICT CAD/CAM equipment.
• Maintain and support teachers with displays in the department.
Additional duties
• Attend team meetings and staff meetings as required.
• Maintain confidentiality inside and outside the workplace.
• Create and maintain knowledge base handbook
• Understand and apply Academy policies.
• Undertake any reasonable additional responsibilities requested at any time by the Academy leadership team.
