Bobby Lal is an Information Technology (IT) Project Manager at The Drax Group. The Drax Group operates Drax power station in Goole, Yorkshire, the largest renewable power station in the UK.
Drax power station now provides energy to homes through the biomass rollout, using wood pellets rather than coal mining. Drax’s vision is to become carbon negative by 2030 and provide homes with the energy they require, ensuring that everyone benefits from it from an environmental and energy perspective.
My role is central to the successful delivery of IT projects. I keep track of costs and multi-department coordination, driving projects to ensure they are delivered on time and within budget.
As a project manager, I deal with finances extensively, managing resource costs, software and hardware costs, and third-party costs. A project consists of three main components: time, quality, and costs.
I use a budget tracker to capture all project costs, ensuring adherence to the budget.
I also utilize a WD8 (Working Day 8) file, which collates all monthly costs for the entire project. I cross-reference this with the budget tracker to identify any discrepancies.
Additionally, I review a weekly timesheet report to ensure that resources allocated to the project are charging correctly, which ties into the WD8 file and budget tracker.
