A Contracts Lawyer is required to deliver high standards of legal advice and support to teams across the Council, resolving procurement and contract legal matters as they arise. Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, legislation, professional codes of practice, and adherence to Council policy. Must be experienced and able to manage a complex and busy caseload and advise at the highest levels as required.
Key responsibilities:
1. Perform in an effective, timely, courteous, professional, and flexible manner the duties of a qualified lawyer.
2. Provide efficient, effective, and pragmatic legal advice and assistance to the Council and other clients.
3. Personally represent the Council and other clients before the courts, tribunals, and public inquiries as required.
4. Work effectively with officers and members of the Council and with other clients.
5. Attend, provide legal advice and assistance to, and prepare reports for officer and member meetings (including evening meetings) of the Council and other clients.
6. Advise upon, draft, and negotiate the full range of legal documents.
Key requirements:
1. Qualified Solicitor or Barrister or Fellow – Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.
2. Experienced and able to manage a complex and busy caseload and advise at the highest levels as required.
3. Considerable post-qualification experience and an up-to-date knowledge of the law and practice relating to contracts and other relevant legal work.
4. Considerable experience of providing legal advice at local authority member and officer meetings or equivalent and of delivering training as required.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
6. Ability to organise and prioritise workload.
7. Ability to work under pressure and to deliver good quality work to tight deadlines.
8. Proven ability and experience of successfully negotiating and drafting the full range of relevant legal documents without supervision.
