As part of a wider regional configuration of services, an opportunity has arisen for a full-time ENT Surgeon with a special interest in Head and Neck Surgery to work at the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW NHS Trust). This is a new post and complements the existing head and neck team at University Hospital, Coventry.
The University Hospital, Coventry is a large and dynamic Trust which moved to a new PFI site in July 2006 and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and facilities including robot surgery and on-site PETCT. It is the home of Warwick Medical School, providing wide-ranging opportunities to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research. UHCW is situated in the heart of the West Midlands with easy access to the rural Warwickshire countryside, Birmingham, and London.
Main duties of the job
Clinical duties
* Provide and develop, with clinical colleagues, an integrated Head and Neck service for the Trust. This may involve all disciplines including primary and tertiary care.
* Participate in the structural development of the Head and Neck service, treatment protocols and guidelines and extend knowledge in the management of Head and Neck conditions.
* Provide a consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in other specialties within the Trust and Primary Care.
* Work with other members of the ENT team to provide a comprehensive general surgical service to the Trust, Primary Care Trusts, and General Practitioners.
* Participate in the ENT on-call rota with consultant colleagues to ensure that appropriate emergency services are provided out-of-normal working hours.
* Take ongoing responsibility for patients under his/her care.
* Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities.
* Develop and maintain good communications with General Practitioners and appropriate external agencies.
* Take responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee doctors within the specialty. This will include the appraisal of SHOs and SpRs.
