Medical Director & Consultant Psychiatrist
We are seeking an experienced and ambitious full-time Medical Director & Consultant Psychiatrist who will work at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke and provide senior medical cover on our 12-bed male PICU service which deals with emergency and crisis admissions.
The post holder will also be the Medical Director at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke - 71-bed mixed service with complex mental health needs. The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and will oversee and maintain the care of all ward inpatients as required and will also have responsibility for auditing the medical services rendered at the ward and ensuring their good quality in accordance to GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines.
In this role, your expertise will be the driving force for life-changing treatment fully supported by a Specialty Doctor and first-class multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists.
Main duties of the job
Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke has a "Good" overall CQC rating and provides emergency admissions services for men and women, and a pathway for women to rehabilitation including a specialist service for personality disorder for up to 71 patients.
Nash Ward is our male PICU service which deals with emergency and crisis admissions. Our aim is a short, rapid intervention to help people regain a sense of control and order in their lives, so they can move to a less restrictive care setting and return home.
Service users usually come to us in crisis, may be non-compliant with their medication or this could be their first presentation with mental health symptoms. All service users are detained under the Mental Health Act.
The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and have overall medical responsibility of patient treatment, whilst liaising closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Registered Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers etc.). The post holder will be expected to act as a positive role model, maintaining and demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families, visitors, and other staff.

Your role responsibilities
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT)
* Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the MDT
* Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users
* Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis & treatment
* Participate in ward rounds & clinical audits
* Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management & embed clinical governance
* Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals & managers hearings & attend hearings
* Participate in the 1 in 8 telephone on-call rota
