What’s the Role: Activity Facilitator
What It Takes:
An important part of the staff role is to support the needs of individuals through the ethos and values of Praxis Care. The ability to be resilient, to communicate effectively, and to utilise a variety of communication tools is essential.
Our dedicated staff team supports our individuals to learn and develop their independence skills, which includes tasks such as shopping, cleaning their flat, personal care, accessing the community, budgeting, and taking medication. Each staff member has something to bring to the role, and we encourage staff to use their humour, sense of fun, and creativity in supporting our individuals with day-to-day life.
Where You Would Work: Drogheda Day Service, Drogheda, Co. Louth
The Hub day service in Drogheda is a New Directions led day activity service for adults with Intellectual Disability, Autism, and complex needs. We work with the individuals and those close to them to build a service that suits their needs. We support each individual to access their local community as well as build on their life skills through a mix of recreational and educational activities.
Due to the nature of the service, lone-working in the community is required.
Activity Facilitators are also required to complete admin and paperwork duties as part of their role as a keyworker. This involves completing regular reports and planning, updating, and reviewing any educational/communication programmes.
Currently, we have 18 service users; however, this number tends to increase every year. Some service users may display challenging behaviour, and these individuals will have Positive Behaviour Support Plans in place.
We operate on a Monday to Friday basis; we are open from 9-5 Monday to Thursday and close at 4pm on a Friday. Part-time positions are within these times and are each planned according to the needs of the service users. We aim to keep part-time working patterns set and consistent; however, if the needs of the service change, we might ask staff to change their working pattern within their contracted hours.
In the event that a service user has specific needs in the evenings or weekends, we may ask staff to facilitate service in the evenings or weekends.
