Duties and responsibilities
2 i/c of English and Literacy
Teaching and Learning:
• support the Head of English and Literacy in the strategic leadership of the department and in implementing an engaging and inclusive English curriculum.
• lead the department’s work on assessment and examinations to improve student progress and attainment and inform interventions.
• coordinate assessment and examinations within the English department, ensuring compliance with school policies and external requirements.
• lead on data analysis and reporting within the department, providing information to SLT and contributing to school improvement planning.
• coordinate and manage the administration of internal and external assessments.
• provide mentoring and support to English teachers, particularly in using assessment data to inform teaching and learning.
• support the English Lead with the evaluation and implementation of the curriculum to ensure students experience the full breadth of the subject and are able to make progress;
• support the provision of structured schemes of work, ensuring curriculum coverage, continuity and progression in the subject for all pupils;
• support the evaluation of progress and achievement in the subject by all pupils;
• assist the Head of English and Literacy to monitor the quality of teaching through observation of lessons and adherence to the school’s monitoring systems;
Management of People:
• deputise for the Head of English and Literacy, when required
• support the Head of English in evaluating the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment within the department.
• establish clear expectations and constructive working relationships among staff involved with the subject through team working and mutual support;
• assist with mentoring and coaching of departmental staff to develop expertise and ensure the quality of teaching and learning;
• support the professional development of English staff, particularly in the areas of assessment, data, and differentiation;
• act as a role model, setting high professional standards for colleagues in teaching, marking and assessment.
• support in planning and delivering departmental meetings and CPD sessions.
• monitor the quality of assessments and provide feedback to staff to ensure consistency and accuracy.
• participate in lesson observations, book scrutiny, and other quality assurance activities.
• contribute to the department’s self-evaluation and improvement planning processes.
• establish and maintain good lines of communication within the Department and with other stakeholders, including staff, pupils, parents, Governors and appropriate outside agencies
Management of Resources:
• support the identification and purchase of resources for the subject;
• manage available resources to meet the objectives of school and subject plans;
• source, promote and support the delivery of enrichment opportunities for students
