A specific task to prepare an ornate alter (singhasan) for the deities installed within the Temple.
An opportunity has arisen for a fixed six-month contract for a Wood Artisan, with experience in wood carving and sculpting to erect a wooden structure in a Swaminarayan (Hindu) place of worship. As the location will be a Swaminarayan temple, candidates will be required to abide strictly with Swaminarayan religious practices when engaged in their work.
Duties and responsibilities:
• Work with the local carpentry team and metal artisans to prepare woodwork for plating and affixing to the structure. Using Vedic crafting and sculpting techniques to achieve a quality finish.
• Provide measurements and specifications for the metal plating fixing.
• Perform quality checks on finishes and fabricated wood and metal prior to fixing.
• Polishing and preparation of gilding surfaces.
• Use hand tools and machinery, as may be required to define carvings and ensure that they meet the design requirements and assemble with crafted joints, nails and dowels.
• Maintain a safe working environment and ensure compliance with health and safety requirements, including maintaining COSHH records of any chemicals used in the process.
Required experience & qualification:
• Proven experience in similar work either in the UK or abroad. Previous experience in similar work in relation to the Swaminarayan sect, with testimonials and references, will be required.
• Proven Vedic crafting and sculpting techniques.
• Able to work flexible hours.
Number required:
10 artisans to complete project to timescales as required. Having worked in teams before would be a particular advantage.
