Birmingham City Football Club is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Soft Tissue Therapist to join our Men's First Team medical and performance team.
You will play a key role in injury prevention, and performance enhancement of our professional footballers. The position will involve working closely with the club's sports medicine, physiotherapy, and fitness teams to provide world-class soft tissue therapy and ensure players are able to perform at their highest level. The role requires weekend and evening working, therefore you will need to be flexible.
Role Responsibilities:
1. Expert Soft Tissue Therapy: Deliver advanced soft tissue therapy interventions, including sports massage, myofascial release, deep tissue work, trigger point therapy, and other evidence-based techniques to treat soft tissue injuries, muscle tightness, and improve overall mobility and flexibility.
2. Injury Rehabilitation & Recovery: Work closely with the medical and physiotherapy teams to create personalized rehabilitation plans for injured players. Support their recovery through targeted soft tissue treatments and ensure safe progression back to full fitness.
3. Injury Prevention & Maintenance: Proactively assess players’ physical conditions, providing treatments that prevent injuries and reduce the risk of muscle strains, joint injuries, and overuse conditions.
4. Performance Enhancement: Support the development of players’ physical performance by addressing muscle imbalances, reducing muscle fatigue, and optimizing soft tissue health.
5. Player Education & Well-Being: Provide individual advice to players on self-management techniques, stretching, recovery strategies, and body maintenance practices. Educate athletes on how to manage their physical health, prevent injuries, and enhance performance outside of regular therapy sessions.
6. Collaboration with Medical & Performance Teams: Work collaboratively with other departments.
7. On-Field & Matchday Support: Attend training sessions and matchdays to provide immediate treatment when required, ensuring players receive therapy as needed during pre- and post-match periods.
8. Record Keeping & Documentation: Maintain comprehensive, accurate, and confidential treatment records for each player, documenting therapy sessions, injury history, treatment progress, and any recommendations. Ensure all records comply with club protocols and confidentiality standards.
9. Continual Professional Development: Stay up to date with the latest research, techniques, and best practices in sports soft tissue therapy. Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities and share insights with the team.
