Required to fill these 2 replacement posts within the Anaesthetic Department at the Leeds General Infirmary.
The post-holder will participate in the undergraduate teaching program for the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, which is organised on a specialty or clinical area basis. The appointee, with colleagues, will contribute to the teaching of postgraduates, including the teaching program for SpRs in Anaesthesia in the Yorkshire Deanery.
The appointee will contribute and, where appropriate, take the lead in Mortality and morbidity meetings, Clinical audit program, and development and application of agreed clinical guidelines. In the discharge of these responsibilities, the candidate will be expected to maintain and update their skills and knowledge through appropriate continuing medical education.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant should possess FRCA (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.
Applicants should have established skills in cardiac anaesthesia and cardiac critical care. Candidates should be able to demonstrate adequate training and additional experience within cardiothoracic anaesthesia and critical care. They must also be willing to provide anaesthesia for non-cardiac services. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part-time and those wishing to job share.

Job responsibilities
In relation to this post, these appointments will enable Theatres and Anaesthesia to continue to deliver a safe service for our patients and increase our ability to provide appropriate anaesthetic cover for theatre lists and outside areas as part of the Trust's recovery plan in reducing the waiting list.

* Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.

Experience
* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in cardiac anaesthesia and cardiac critical care.
* Specifically, must demonstrate higher cardiac training in anaesthesia.
* Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
* Recognised accreditation in trans-oesophageal echocardiography.
Training, Research, Teaching & Audit
* Should have completed a recognised training programme in cardiac anaesthesia.
* Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
* Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
* Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
* Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
* Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
