We advise on a variety of contracts from day-to-day business relationships up to major projects.
Our clients are in various sectors such as technology, media, retail, pharmaceutical, insurance transport and logistics, manufacturing alongside work within the public sector for universities, NHS bodies, police forces and local authorities.
Weightmans has a broad remit in emergency services that looks at how they run the business side of the organisation. As such, we also advise on governance, and public and administrative law for these clients.
The team is national with coverage across our Liverpool, London, Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, and Glasgow offices.
Weightmans operates a hybrid working policy with at least two days a week working in the office.
We are recruiting for a 4-6 PQE lawyer to support the Head of Emergency Services on governance, police advisory collaboration and policy matters.
Key Responsibilities
1. You will support work for police clients where the firm provides in-house services where access to swift, and accurate advice is required by senior officers and members of the client executive team.
2. The role will require a confident self-starter, who has the necessary gravitas and practical approach to deal with senior personnel in a calm and pragmatic manner on what are often high profile and complex issues
3. The role will require some non-legal activities assisting clients with implementation of government policy, strategy and managing major projects
4. The work will include analysis of Police powers for Chief Constables, Deputy Chief Constables, PCCs, and their Chief Executives, vires issues and working on national collaborations in high profile and sensitive areas
5. The ideal applicant will be able and willing to assist with police misconduct matters

7. Experience in police law and providing in-house services will be an advantage
8. Good presentation skills
