We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual to work in The Surgical Pre-assessment Clinic as a Healthcare Assistant. You will become part of a small team, who carry out pre-operative investigations to patients prior to elective surgical admissions.
You will attend the Healthcare Assistant GROW Programme for full training. This includes mandatory training (the training that all clinical staff at the hospital complete), you will be taught the fundamental skills you need to perform your role and attend the Caring with Kindness programme (essential learning from patient experience). The course is very practical – you will have plenty of time to practice new skills before you start your new role.
You will be required to work under the direct supervision of the registered nurse within the team to deliver patient care to a high standard. Working independently and as part of a team, you should be organised and have the ability to use team building skills.
You will have a good understanding of IT and be able to accurately document paperwork, paying close attention to detail. You must be willing to undertake training to enable you have the skills to deliver the best care our patients deserve.
Good communication skills are essential in this role, written and verbal. You must be competent in using a computer; ability to use the PAS system is desirable but not essential as training will be given.
Previous experience in clinics is essential. Experience in pre-operative tasks such as carrying out swabs, ECG’s, venepuncture and routine observations are desirable, however, not essential, as training will be given for the right candidate.
You will participate in the day to day running of the pre-assessment facility. Duties will include stocking up, ordering stock, session preparation, carrying out the pre-operative investigations and supporting the nursing team in the smooth running of the clinics.
The clinic is open Monday to Friday 08.00 - 18.00.
