Job summary We are seeking an experienced Children's nurse to come and join the dynamic nursing team on Paediatric Short Stay Unit at King's College Hospital for a fixed-term period. The Paediatric Short Stay Unit is a 6 bedded inpatient ward focussing on an ambulatory model of care, admitting paediatric patients between 0-16years of age with a variety of medical and surgical presentations. We work within the multidisciplinary to team to provide holistic care to patients across all specialities admitted to the unit. We aim to admit and discharge patients with 48 hours of admission, and where required refer on to the Children's Inpatient wards or to community nursing or Children's Hospital at Home. Some of the conditions you may be involved in providing care to patients for include but are not limited to, conservative respiratory assessment and management for patients with asthma, pneumonia, bronchiolitis, pre and post-operative management for day case and simple procedures, pain management for patients experiencing a sickle cell crisis, head injuries, febrile seizures, CAMHS and safeguarding. As a Band 6 Nurse, you will be able to have the opportunity to undertake various portfolios in the unit and lead a small team and delegate for the Ward Manager as required. Main duties of the job As a Band 6 Nurse you will be supported by your peers, Ward Leaders and Matron. We are also very privileged to have a team of Practice Development Nurses/Clinical Practice Facilitators that are dedicated to supporting you in the clinical area to facilitate your development with regard to knowledge, skills and career progression.
