We are looking for a motivated and hands-on Electronics Engineer to join our team. This role will focus on stakeholder engagement, gathering requirements, and developing low-cost, high-reliability electronics for current and future platforms, as well as internal prototypes and test equipment. You should have a strong understanding of power, analog, and embedded electronics, with a passion for embedded designs. As a key player in the development and improvement of Brompton Bicycle's electric platforms, you'll need a proactive approach. You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to the design of electronic system architecture, promote best engineering practices, and support system engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Contribute to the development of low-cost, high-reliability electronics for moderate-volume markets throughout the entire engineering lifecycle.
2. Design, analyze, and verify electronics for consumer products, internal prototypes, and test equipment.
3. Provide technical support to team members and external stakeholders on an ad-hoc basis.
4. Work on improving quality and processes across all aspects of Brompton’s electronics, including policy, design, and process refinement.
5. Collaborate with Systems and Software engineers to develop requirements, architectures, resolve complex issues, and integrate software with hardware.
6. Assist manufacturers with test equipment for electronic product lines and end-of-line testers.
7. Proven experience in product lifecycle design and support within an electronics team setting.
8. Ability to present and explain electronic product and system designs to colleagues, management, and stakeholders.
9. Proficiency in creating detailed drawings, schematics, and models using design software.
10. Experience with reviewing and releasing schematics, PCB capture, and assembly drawings to manufacturers.
11. Hands-on experience designing and building electronic components and circuits.
12. Basic understanding of software and ability to work with software tools (e.g., flashing/debugging tools).
13. Ability to prepare cost estimates for products and technical solutions.
14. Experience in defining and performing verification & validation activities, including simulation, worst-case analysis, and bench testing.
15. Strong testing and diagnostic skills to drive product improvements.
16. General knowledge of EMC in a power electronics context.
17. Knowledge of 3-phase inverters, DC-DC converters, microcontrollers, and analog electronics.
18. Experience with PCB layout design and design for manufacturing.
19. Background in working with electronic manufacturing in moderate-volume commercial or automotive settings, including supplier interfaces.
20. Familiarity with Systems Engineering principles, including Requirements and Traceability.
21. Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously.
22. Knowledge of working to safety standards, such as IEC61508 and ISO26262.
23. Understanding of selecting and specifying cabling and connectors.
24. Familiarity with batteries and electric machines.
Education & Experience:
1. Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar).
2. Solid engineering/technical background demonstrated in a relevant environment.
3. Hands-on experience in a similar role.
4. At least 3 years of experience in R&D or commercial product design in an electronics setting.
