ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a full-time Environmental Health Technical Officer to join our dedicated team of officers within the Council’s Environmental Health and Licensing service. The service delivers the full range of environmental health and licensing functions across the Borough. You will play a key role within the Council’s Residential team, in the delivery of an effective and professional service to Stevenage residents. The role will be varied and will include assisting in the investigation of complaints of noise and other statutory nuisances relating to residential premises, assisting with the work of the team in enforcing private sector housing standards including the regulation of HMOs, taking action to bring empty homes back into use and the use of statutory powers relating to public health protection and pest control. The post will involve hybrid working, with part of your time being office-based in addition to working from home.
ABOUT YOU
You will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in a science or law-related subject. In addition, you will have experience of carrying out investigations and evidence-gathering within an enforcement role. Your experience may have been gained within the field of environmental health or within an alternative enforcement role, either within a local authority or within another agency, e.g. licensing, environmental crime, trading standards, police. You will be able to communicate effectively with a range of audiences, be able to work with minimal supervision in addition to working alongside colleagues within the team and you will be able to work under pressure and prioritise tasks in order to meet service delivery standards.
