Job Summary
We are looking to appoint a flexible person with general clerical skills, who can cope well under pressure. Someone who enjoys working with members of the public, is an experienced communicator and will enjoy being a vital member of our friendly team. You will need to have good organisational skills as well as a variety of other reception skills.
We have a vacancy for a part time ward receptionist/support worker to assist with the clerical and stock logistics of a very busy Medical Ward. The successful applicant will have excellent organizational skills and a keen willingness to learn. They will also require good keyboard skills as the applicant will use computer programmes specific to healthcare.
The role is varied and includes assisting with general ward tidiness, filing, medical data inputting, a pleasant telephone manner, logistical planning and ordering of renal stock in a timely manner. The role requires a high degree of time management and teamwork. The applicant will be working within a growing nursing team in an area where the demands on this role are high.
Main duties of the job
1. Answer telephone enquiries in an appropriate manner reporting information to patients, nursing staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
2. Maintain good written and verbal communication between all departments and outside agencies.
3. Use the computerised patient management system (Camis) to access patient details, admit and discharge patients.
4. Be responsible for the ordering of stock and to ensure adequate levels are maintained.
5. Photocopy documents/notes as required. Locate, collate, file and store patient's notes as appropriate.
6. Contribute to developing a welcoming atmosphere within the ward making users feel comfortable and at ease.
7. Deal appropriately with distressed patients and/or relatives with support from nursing staff.
8. Report any problems relevant to the ward to the senior nurse in charge.
9. Ensure up to date personal awareness and knowledge of Trust wide issues and directives, applying knowledge in the workplace, including attending appropriate directorate briefings.

Essential
* Evidence of formal education up to the age of 16.
* Numeracy and Literacy Skills in computers and IT.

* Administration qualification.
