BPAS is an independent healthcare charity that has been advocating and caring for women and couples for over 55 years, supporting over 100,000 women annually across more than 50 healthcare clinics nationwide.
Following significant organisational change and the establishment of a new Executive Leadership structure, we are looking for a Deputy Chief Medical Officer to join the Senior Operational Team.
As the Deputy Chief Medical Officer at BPAS, you will contribute to the strategic leadership of our clinical services. You will provide professional leadership to BPAS medical workforce and collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of patient care. Your responsibilities will include leading clinical governance initiatives, managing professional standards, and supporting the development of clinical strategies. You will also act as the Responsible Officer for BPAS, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and leading on medical workforce strategy and succession planning.
You will be expected to maintain a visible presence, offering expert guidance on clinical matters to the BPAS Board, driving improvements, and ensuring that all services are informed by evidence and best practice.
Main duties of the job
* Take a lead role in the shaping of clinical services strategy, working closely with the Chief Clinical Officer & the Deputy Chief of Nursing, Midwifery & Quality
* Be a highly visible leader, taking specific responsibility & professional leadership of the medical workforce at all levels
* Serve as a professional reference for BPAS in collaboration with key external stakeholders & relevant professional bodies
* Provide necessary, accurate & timely data & reports to the Board & subcommittees to assist decision making & inform improvements
* Take responsibility as the BPAS Responsible Officer for doctors' revalidation
* Working with the Deputy Chief of Nursing, Midwifery & Quality, provide clinical leadership in planning & developing services
* Lead the development & implementation of a system for individual performance review & personal development plans for clinicians
About You
We're seeking a credible clinical leader with a medical degree & GMC registration, with a wealth of experience in abortion care & clinical governance. You'll have experience working within multidisciplinary teams & have demonstrable clinical leadership in a healthcare setting. Your ability to inspire & influence at all levels, coupled with your resilience & strategic mindset, will ensure that BPAS continues to offer safe, high-quality care. Ideally, you will bring experience of practicing abortions up to 24 weeks gestation & working with Boards, ensuring confidence & credibility at the highest levels of leadership.

Further Information:
Location: Hybrid - home working with travel required to Head Office in Leamington Spa and other BPAS units as required.
Hours: 36 per week Monday to Friday
On call: All members of the Senior Operating Team will be required to participate in an on-call rota. The On-Call policy and procedure is being reviewed and revised, however it is envisaged that participation will involve being available to receive emergency / on-call telephone calls up to 9pm Monday to Friday and on Saturdays and Sundays approximately 4 times per year.
