Job Description
Morrison Energy Services is recruiting for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to work on various energy projects in the UK, initially based in York.
As the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will be part of our Commercial team responsible for managing all commercial aspects of a project, including liaising with the client, internal and external reporting, and managing third-party interactions.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Compile relevant information for preparation of reports and claims to agreed timescales. Assist with the ongoing implementation of the commercial application in respect of site personnel while developing lasting relationships with Business Unit and Project Managers.
2. Constantly refer to the project risk management plan for thorough, accurate, high-level risk assessment. Monitor the register and any related documentation in accordance with the plan.
3. Ultimate responsibility for all sub-contractor management.
4. Ensure all sub-contractors and suppliers have submitted compliant quotations, enquiries, and applications within the required timescale, and produce all documentation to select and secure services, as well as monthly assessments, variations, claims, and final account agreements through coaching of the Quantity Surveyor.
5. Actively increase knowledge of commercial issues and contract law with a view to managing and agreeing compensation events, variations, and claims.
6. Actively suggest and develop processes for increased accuracy and efficiency, minimizing time journal and reconciliation tasks.
7. Liaison with the Commercial Manager and Quantity Surveyor(s) to ensure appropriate commercial cover is maintained.
8. Assist the team and Project Manager, Engineers, and Planners with regard to recovery of contract costs, enhancing project profit by identifying variations, delays, and claims.
9. Assist with the production of monthly project financial and forecast-to-complete reports for analysis with Finance staff and Commercial Staff.
10. Develop sound and balanced negotiating skills.
11. Attend handover and progress meetings when requested.
12. Help produce a site commercial manual and documents to record variations.
13. Undertake monthly reporting for both client and internal, ensuring comprehensive variance analysis and positive cash collection.
14. Comply with and contribute to the effective implementation of the current MES TN: Health and Safety Policy, Quality Policy, and Environmental Policy within established Company policies and procedures.
15. Undertake any other duties as necessary to meet the varying demands of the business and satisfy customer needs.
Skills & Knowledge Requirements

5. Contract costing knowledge.
6. Contract law NEC 3 & 4, Option A, C & E.
7. Previous experience in Quantity Surveying.
8. Contract experience, capturing site records for variations and valuations; supporting a project team.
9. Sub Contract Management.
10. Cost value reconciliation.
11. Qualification in Quantity Surveying.
12. Knowledge of the industry.
