Job Purpose: To provide for the efficient maintenance, safety and security of the school and the grounds at all times.
Hours per week: 25-37 hours per week (negotiable) Permanent Post *This post could be full time for 1 person or part time for 2 people*
Salary: Grade 4 SCP 5-7, £24,790 min - £25,584 max
About the Role
adhere to school’s policies and procedures and support the school’s aims and ethos
undertake any necessary training required for the post
attend to the opening and closing of the school daily at the agreed times (depending on working hours)
open and close the school for evening and occasional weekend use at times arranged by the Head Teacher/Deputy Headteacher/Business Manager outside of normal hours.
be responsible for general security at all times, making sure all windows are closed securely, and doors are shut and locked securely in all school buildings and operating the intruder alarm systems
register as main Key Holder and be the first point of contact in an emergency call-out situation. (You may be called out at unsociable hours or at weekends to deal with security problems)
apply all security procedures for the school's buildings and grounds
complete compliance tests such as fire alarm, legionella and emergency lighting and keep accurate records of such tests
complete weekly and monthly health & safety checks and keep accurate records of such checks
carry out minor or temporary repairs, as necessary
carry out basic DIY jobs ie: flat pack furniture assembly, erecting shelves etc
draw the attention of the Headteacher to any necessary repair or maintenance work that is beyond the competence of the caretaking staff
ensure that the heating system operates economically and efficiently, together with the hotwater system
carry out frost-precaution procedures
inform the office of any sanitary or janitorial materials required
be aware of Health & Safety and COSHH regulations
carry out emergency procedures in the event of a fire, flood, break-in, accident or major damage
take appropriate action to prevent trespass on the school grounds and record incidents of trespass or vandalism
ensure that all playing areas and paths are litter free and safe and that all playground bins are clean and emptied
inspect all drains and gullies to ensure that they are free-flowing and clean, and that any defects are reported
comply with any reasonable request made by the headteacher, deputy headteacher or business manager.
About you
Experience of working within a similar role.
Experience of building security including alarm setting.
Experience of working in building maintenance/repair.
An awareness of Health & Safety practices and procedures.
Ability to multi-task, prioritise workloads to work to tight deadlines.
Ability to work independently or within a team.
Ability to follow written or verbal instructions.
Practical and good DIY and maintenance skills.
Understand the importance of Health & Safety.
Willingness and ability to learn basic computer skills.
Literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to organise and prioritise.
Ability to manage own time effectively and work to deadlines.
