We’re looking for a dedicated and highly skilled Large Loss Claims Handler to join their dynamic team and make a real impact, based in either Salford Quays, Manchester, or Haywards Heath, West Sussex.
The successful applicant will report to the Head of Large Loss and proactively manage a caseload of new and existing catastrophic personal injury claims potentially exceeding £1 million+ and involving claims of the utmost severity, such as spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, and limb amputations. Day-to-day duties involve close collaboration with departmental colleagues, external solicitors, and stakeholders to settle complex and sensitive claims professionally and efficiently.
You’ll be joining a critical and busy department, so being a team player with the ability to independently plan your workload while collaborating widely with internal and external stakeholders is essential to delivering an outstanding service to the insurer, reinsurers, and customers.

Key Responsibilities:
* Manage catastrophic personal injury claims from inception to conclusion.
* Be fully conversant with relevant laws, including the Civil Procedure Rules, Personal Injury Pre-Action Protocol, Rehabilitation Code, and the Road Traffic Act.
* Collaborate with the Head of Large Loss to ensure reserves accurately reflect anticipated damages and costs.
* Build and maintain relationships with reinsurers, panel solicitors, and other stakeholders.
* Process payments within authority levels and authorize payments when necessary.
* Ensure claims files are reserved promptly and accurately, adhering to reserving philosophy.
* Maintain and review diaries within SLAs and KPIs for timely claim settlements.
* Identify potential fraudulent claims and take appropriate action.
* Handle litigated cases in accordance with procedural requirements.
* Provide technical guidance to junior employees.
* Support delivery of the claims business plan and income targets.
* Constantly improve understanding of technical issues in your specialist area.
* Work collaboratively across teams to ensure best practices and compliance.
Experience & Knowledge:
* Extensive motor claims experience at a senior level within financial services/motor insurance.
* Proven track record in handling large loss personal injury claims exceeding £500,000, including catastrophic reinsurance claims over £1,000,000.
* Excellent understanding of motor claims, personal injury, reinsurance, and relevant legislation.
* Knowledge of FCA requirements, including TCF, and regulatory frameworks for claims.
* Solid working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules, Personal Injury Pre-Action Protocol, and Rehabilitation Code.
* Strong commercial awareness and understanding of negotiation and litigation tactics.
