Fortem Solutions are currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to join our team, based in the Rubery area, where we will be delivering a variety of planned works including Kitchen and Bathrooms.
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will report to the Senior Quantity Surveyor and work in partnership with Operations Management, responsible for the line management of the Assistant Quantity Surveyor’s and be accountable for the development of the team.
The Quantity Surveyor ensures accurate and timely reporting and is fundamental to the success and development of the business with a key focus on building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring the company obtains value for money and receives the correct market value from the supply chain.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Ensure the company secures its full entitlement within the parameters of the Contract and further commercial negotiations.
2. Understand the company values and procedures internally and externally.
3. Ensure the project team achieve or exceed budgeted targets.
4. Responsible for the application schedule of rates, acting as a subject matter expert for contractual arrangements.
5. Maximise cash flow through monthly invoicing, the implementation of appropriate procedures to resolve client queries and ensuring cash is received when due.
6. Monitoring and analysis of management information and job cost against job revenue, supporting operations and finance and enabling data-driven decision making.
7. Identify potential disputes in a timely manner and report to line manager.
8. Ensure sub-contractor orders accurately reflect main contract requirements and scope of works.
9. Support the SQS in the preparation and timely reporting of information including Cost Value Reconciliations (CVR), Cost Value Comparison (CVC) and management accounts, providing governance of budgets through robust cost control.
What you will need
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:
Essential criteria:
1. QS degree or equivalent training relevant experience
2. Excellent numeracy and organisation skills
3. Data interrogation skills
4. Excellent IT knowledge including a high level of Excel skills (incl. V-Lookup, Pivot tables and formula development)
5. Contractual awareness
6. Negotiating and communication skills
7. Line management experience and the development of people
8. Detailed knowledge of relevant contract conditions
9. Re-measurement of high-risk packages and trades
10. Controlling costs in accordance with budget
11. Providing feedback for new and effective systems and controls for the business
12. Positively reacting to change and assisting in its implementation in the business

1. Working towards MCIOB or RICS membership
