Job Summary
The Trauma and Orthopaedic team has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our established trauma team at Glangwili General Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with experience working within Trauma and Orthopaedics. Applicants will be able to have experience working at a Band 6 level.
We are looking for nurses who are forward thinking and strive for the highest standards of care, providing specialist trauma knowledge to patients, ward staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
The role will include validation for National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD), interpreting the data and working with the current Trauma CNS, Scheduled Care Team and Glangwili Site Team in quality improvements projects to improve and sustain compliance with the Key Performance Indicators set out in the NHFD.
The applicant will need to have an understanding of the South Wales Major Trauma Network and the current pathways for trauma services across South Wales.
The successful candidate will lead and develop pathways specific to trauma, supporting and facilitating safe and effective management group (this includes patients who sustain hip fractures), from admission to discharge.
This role is part time for 30 hours over 4 days, including weekends.
Main duties of the job
1. To work in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the safe and effective delivery of high standards of nursing care.
2. To be responsible for the daily monitoring of inpatients on Trauma wards after surgery to ensure that they are progressing as planned and liaise accordingly with the relevant medical team.
3. To participate with the Trauma Coordinator and Operating Theatre staff, in the coordination of urgent trauma surgery according to the outstanding Trauma List of patients awaiting surgery, availability of equipment, surgical time, etc.
4. To facilitate and support a culture that understands and meets the specialist and complex need of trauma patients, whilst ensuring that the performance targets, such as decreased length of stay, are met.
5. To facilitate effective patient pathway coordination through collaboration with relevant services to ensure timely, appropriate and safe care.
6. To expedite clinical intervention for all trauma patients and to achieve the clinical standards as detailed in the National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD).
7. Provide education and training to staff working in a Trauma setting, including nursing teams, students (nursing and medical), therapy teams, and community services as required.

Essential Qualifications and Knowledge
* Registered Nurse
* Relevant Degree
* Relevant Master's degree, or equivalent experience with a willingness to work towards
* Evidence of Trauma / Orthopaedic specialist courses or qualification
* Understanding of Trauma Pathways across the Health Board and Wider South Wales Trauma Network
* Understanding the clinical standards as detailed in the National Hip Fracture database (NHFD)
Desirable Qualifications and Knowledge
* Non-medical Prescriber, or willing to undertake
* Evidence of higher level of practice development within specialist area
* Additional clinical skills such as Venepuncture, cannulation, Complex wound dressing
* Clinical Supervision course
* Evidence of study or research in this field
Experience
* Experience working in a leadership role at Band 6 or above
* Extensive previous experience of working within Trauma speciality
* Demonstrable experience of complex decision making
* Leadership and management experience
* Significant experience where a degree of autonomous working has been required
* Experience of multi-professional working
* Presenting information and data in departmental meetings and National hip fracture database meetings
* Supporting the Clinical Leads for the National Hip fracture database with data collection and validation and audit
* Supporting the Senior Nurse Manager with investigations of clinical incidents
