What will I be doing?
As a Fabricator in the world of shipbuilding, your role is pivotal, as you assemble the very structure of ships from their shell and decks to bulkheads, frames, and longitudinals. With precision and expertise, you'll mark off materials and fit and fair steelwork to maintain the ship's integrity.
You'll fabricate ship items like seats, ladders, false flooring, and panels, as well as outfitting ships with fitting hatches, watertight doors, equipment seats, and false flooring. You'll learn how to level and align large ship structures during build, along with the lifting and transportation of these structures during the build process.
You'll play a key role in preparing ships to go to sea, making vessels seaworthy for launch and sea trials, manufacturing launch slipways, as well as overseeing plate preparation and docking. You'll use different methods to support you in Plating, including hand grinding and fuel gas cutting.
