Area Lead - Design Department: Design Location: Hinckley, Leicestershire Reports to: Functional Lead or Vehicle Lead Job Role Overview: An Area Lead will be responsible for the delivery of the Design and Development of a wide range of motorcycle components or areas. This includes ensuring that these components or areas meet the time, cost, quality, and specification constraints outlined in the NMIP process. The role involves both direct contributions and the management of Package Leads, Senior Design Engineers, and Design Engineers. Duties and Responsibilities: Oversee the Design and Development phases for a range of motorcycle components or areas, seeking support from Specialists and Chief Engineers when required. Ensure the delivery of these areas meets the time, cost, quality, and specification requirements as per the NMIP process and KPI targets. Balance highly technical detail with planning and leadership responsibilities, particularly when overseeing Package Leads and Design Engineers. Communicate and collaborate effectively across the entire supply and value chain to maximize team efficiency. Develop and maintain detailed project plans to ensure current and future deliverables are met. Drive performance against key KPI metrics related to Cost, Time, Quality, and Specification, both directly and through leadership of the team. Adhere to established processes, procedures, and working practices to minimize project risks while continuously seeking improvements. Escalate risks, issues, and concerns through the reporting chain as required. Provide mentorship, coaching, and performance management for direct reports, ensuring their development. Stand in for Functional Leads when necessary. Assist with projects and undertake additional duties as required by management. Qualifications & Experience: Maths and English GCSE grade C or above. MEng or BEng in an Engineering-related subject. Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages, including Excel, Word, and Outlook. Experience in planning, progress monitoring, and leading a team, with the ability to constructively raise concerns and propose solutions. Proven ability to provide constructive feedback to team members, fostering their professional development. Demonstrated experience in meeting targets and delivering projects with a sense of urgency. Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of how Design activities impact all business areas. Highly technical mindset with a keen eye for detail.
