Senior Bookkeeper
Part-Time - 16-20 hours per week
GBP30,000 pro rata
We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Senior Bookkeeper on a part-time basis to join our team based in Cirencester for 16-20 hours per week. This is a crucial role within the finance department, supporting the financial operations of the company and its clients, whilst ensuring accurate record-keeping and compliance with financial regulations. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a keen eye for detail with the ability to communicate effectively.
This role will encompass all processing of day-to-day bookkeeping tasks as well as providing financial insights and analyses to support strategic decision-making processes whilst working closely with our Management Accountant and senior management team.
Duties of the role include:
1. Record keeping:
o To maintain and update accurate financial records and documentation.
o To resolve and reconcile ledgers, ensuring all entries are accurate and timely.
2. Accounts payable and receivable:
o To manage both accounts payable and receivable, processing payments and receipts, ensuring cost centres are appropriately allocated.
o To set up bank payments.
o To create, amend and review forecast payment plans.
o To manage accounts receivable credit control, ensuring timely receipts.
o To prepare and file VAT returns.
3. Bank reconciliation:
o To reconcile bank statements with company accounts to ensure consistency and accuracy.
4. Payroll:
o To manage new starters and leavers.
o To process weekly and monthly payroll, setting up payments and reporting to HMRC.
o To manage employee expense claims.
5. Financial reporting:
o To assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports.
o To create, manage and reverse journals for accrual and prepayments.
o To update and maintain the fixed asset register.
o To generate reports for management, providing insights into financial performance and cash flow.
6. Audit support:
o To assist with external audits by providing necessary documentation and information.
7. Management Accountant support:
o To provide support to our Management Accountant as required.
Experience and personal attributes:
Prospective candidates will hold a minimum Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification or equivalent (essential) and should be educated to degree level in finance, and be able to provide evidence of:
* Minimum of 3 years experience within an accounting department (essential), working within a SME (desirable).
* Strong expertise in all elements of bookkeeping.
* Proven experience in payroll processing and VAT compliance, familiarity with UK tax regulations and compliance.
* Robust grasp of accounting and tax principles, practices and concepts.
* Exceptional numerical and analytical skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in financial data.
* Efficient communication skills with the confidence to liaise with stakeholders, third parties and colleagues at all levels.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
* High proficiency in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks, Sage, Xero) and Microsoft Office Suite.
* First-rate organisational skills with the ability to multitask a varied workload with robust time-management skills.
* Being process driven with the ability to identify areas that can be streamlined.
* Willingness to learn new skills and a can-do attitude.
* The right to work in the UK.
* A full UK driving licence.

This is a part-time, permanent position working 16-20 hours per week based in Cirencester. Employment on a self-employed basis will also be considered.
