We are seeking a visionary Head of Advanced Media Production Studios to lead and develop our cutting-edge media production facilities in London and Gateshead. This role is pivotal in advancing the capabilities of virtual production, real-time rendering, motion capture, volumetric capture, and AI-driven content creation. The successful candidate will drive innovation, foster industry collaborations, and oversee the operational excellence of the studios.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in studio management, technology leadership, and industry partnerships within film, TV, gaming, or immersive media. They will work closely with production companies, broadcasters, gaming studios, research institutions, and technology providers to expand the studios’ influence and impact. This role requires a balance of technical expertise, commercial acumen, and strategic vision.
Based in Gateshead with frequent travel to London and to industry events, partner locations, and Digital Catapult offices.
WHAT YOU’LL DO (Duties)
* Work as part of the Digital Catapult / Target3D joint venture leadership team to contribute to and realise the full potential of the Advanced Media Production vision. Working with Digital Catapult Commercial Product & Sales Teams and Partners to drive incremental growth.
* Manage the exploration and adoption of emerging technologies, integrating real-time engines, spatial computing, AI, and cloud-based workflows.
* Establish the studios as key hubs for advanced production, R&D, and industry collaboration.
* Work with colleagues to establish commercial partnerships and funding opportunities, ensuring sustainable revenue streams.
* Build and manage relationships with film studios, broadcasters, gaming companies, and immersive media firms.
* Support work to identify and secure industry collaborations, funding, research partnerships, and high-value commercial projects.
* Oversee the day-to-day operations of the studios, ensuring seamless functionality and resource allocation and health & safety.
* Mentor, and develop a high-performing team of technical specialists, creative practitioners, and operational staff.
* Represent the studios at regional, national, and international industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
* Deliver compelling presentations, pitches, and proposals to potential partners and stakeholders.
* Work closely with and support Digital Catapult’s Leadership, Markets, Sales Enablement, and Place Teams to align business development efforts with strategic goals.
Requirements
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR (Experience)
* Proven experience in studio management and media production including managing the team, logistics, budgets and P&L.
* Strong understanding of virtual production, real-time rendering (Unreal Engine, Unity), motion capture, volumetric capture, and AI-driven content creation.
* Track record of supporting the development and closing of commercial partnerships, securing funding and generating revenue.
* Extensive industry and academic network across film, TV, games, and immersive media sectors.
* Managing performance and professional development in your team to further the development of appropriate expertise and excellent customer service.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Strong strategic thinking and execution capabilities, balancing business growth and partner success.
* Results-oriented, with strong problem-solving abilities.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
