Post CCT Clinical Fellow in Spinal Surgery

There are 3 x 12 month positions on offer via this advert. The first appointment is to commence August 2025, the second August 2026 and the third August 2027 and it is essential the applicant should have been awarded FRCS (Orth or NS). The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a 'training post', full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are appropriate to an individual recently awarded the Certificate of Completion of Training in either Trauma and Orthopaedics or Neurosurgery. The contract of Employment will be held with Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS FT.
This post would offer combined Ortho/Neuro and paediatric spine fellowship experience to cover breadth of spinal surgery across 3 hospitals in Sheffield. Appointees can discuss a flexible timetable with fellowship supervisors for rotations in Northern General, Royal Hallamshire hospital and Sheffield Children's hospital over a 12-month period.
Main duties of the job
The Post CCT Clinical Spinal Fellow will be supported by Resident doctors and a Clinical Nurse specialist and will have responsibility for the daily care of the patients under the care of Spinal Consultants at NGH.
There is an opportunity to attend Theatre and outpatient sessions with the neurosurgical (Complex spine) team at Royal Hallamshire hospital and flexible working with the post holder at Sheffield Children's hospital to attend paediatric clinics and theatre sessions.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise
* FRCS (Orth) or FRCS(SN)
* Basic Medical Degree
* Distinctions, prizes, awards, scholarships. Other degrees
Research
* Evidence of recent involvement in research and audit related to spinal conditions
* Recent spinal publications in Peer-reviewed journals
Clinical experience
* Between 12 and 36 months experience within a dedicated spinal surgical service
* Successful completion of certificate of training prior to commencement in post (post CCT)
* NHS Experience (excluding clinical attachment)
Teaching and training
* Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors
Continuous Professional Development
* Evidence of participation in CME/CPD relating to spinal surgery within the last 12 months
* Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
