Job summary This post is for a Clinical Fellow in Intensive Care with the option of including responsibilities for training and education through simulation. It is expected that successful applicants will be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for and commitment to medical education of themselves and other staff. The post holder will work for 6 months as part of the Critical Care team at RHCH, with the option to renew for a further 6 months subject to satisfactory progress review. The post holder will work a rota that includes weekdays, evenings and weekends, but not currently nights on-call, covering the Intensive Care Unit. Night-time work may be required depending on the need for critical care surge activity in the face of Covid-19 or clinical pressures on Critical care, but if required would be supported by an anaesthetically trained doctor on-site, as well as dedicated Consultant support from home. The working pattern is compliant with the European Working Time Directive. Total direct clinical care [DCC] hours averaged over 6 weeks will not exceed 48 hours a week. This includes compulsory attendance (except when on leave or doing DCC) at: Mortality & Morbidity (M&M) meetingsMultidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetingsMedical unit meetings / grand roundsTimetabled teaching sessions Main duties of the job Clinical Duties To contribute to and accurately document ICU ward rounds Daily assessment of ICU/HDU patients assigned to their care Organisation of investigations and prescription of therapy Performance of procedures (including arterial lines, central venous catheters & chest drains and therapeutic interventions - all under supervision until deemed competent in a specific area) Liaison with admitting teams and ICU support services Attending cardiac arrest, emergency & trauma calls Assessment of critical care referrals from theatres, emergency department or general wards Assessing, admitting and providing ongoing care for patients in the Acute Assessment Unit at BNHH Non-Clinical Duties Teaching and assisting in the running of the Trust's monthly 'RRAPiD' courses, which provide multidisciplinary training focussed on recognition and treatment of the deteriorating patient. Supporting regular induction programmes for new starters within Critical care. Supporting regular training courses, including Transfer Training, Tracheostomy Training, MAST (Make the Airway Safe Team). Post-holders will be "team-players" able to fully integrate into the multidisciplinary ICU team. Attendance at team meetings, M&M meetings and teaching sessions is expected. Maintenance of a logbook of procedures seen / undertaken and clinical conditions seen. Presenting at least one completed audit project is expected.
