Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant
A highly regarded primary school in Chorley is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic part-time Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional needs. These include, but are not limited to, reading and writing difficulties, autism, physical or mental disabilities, severe and profound learning difficulties, and challenges such as ADHD/ADD.
Position
- Working Hours: 8:45 am - 12:30 pm, Monday to Friday, term time only.
- Start Date: Monday 6th January 2025 (or sooner).
- Scope: Supporting children aged 4-11 (EYFS to Year 6) with diverse and complex needs.
- Location: A warm and inclusive school that prioritises academic and social development while fostering independence, confidence, and resilience among pupils.
Role
This position involves working closely with students who may require additional medical, social, or educational support. The curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of all pupils, and the successful candidate will play a crucial role in helping students reach their potential while promoting their overall well-being.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience supporting young people with Special Educational Needs.
- Additional training (or willingness to undertake training) in areas such as Sign Language, Makaton, Speech and Language Therapy, Moving and Handling, or Team Teach.
- A commitment to supporting the individual needs of children with SEN.
- Excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach.
- A willingness to assist with personal care requirements as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide supervision and support to pupils, ensuring their safety and full engagement with the curriculum.
- Foster inclusion and promote acceptance of all pupils.
- Assist with personal needs, including health, social, and welfare matters.
- Prepare and manage learning resources effectively.
- Encourage positive peer interactions and participation in activities led by teachers.
- Offer feedback to pupils and communicate progress with parents/carers.
- Handle administrative tasks, including completing necessary paperwork.
