Locum Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine (with Specialty Interest)

Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust Group, is looking for a full-time Consultant Physician in Acute and General Medicine to fulfill a 6-month fixed-term post with the possibility of extension to cover maternity leave from Feb 2025. You will be joining a department that currently has 10 Consultant Acute Physicians.

The post offers an exciting opportunity to join a growing team and to develop new models of working and services that support all patients attending the hospital and within the local community. We are building a new hospital as part of the Government's new hospital programme, so this is an exciting opportunity to play a role in developing the department and wider services for the future.

Job Responsibilities
As a Consultant Physician in Acute and General Medicine, you will be responsible for:
1. Providing high-quality clinical care to patients.
2. Participating in departmental meetings and contributing to service development.
3. Supervising junior medical staff and contributing to their training.
4. Engaging in clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* MRCP or Equivalent Specialist qualification
* Full GMC Registration with license to practice
Desirable
* Evidence of participation in research (peer-reviewed publications etc.)
* A higher degree (MD, PhD)
Clinical Experience
Essential
* Higher specialist training in Specialty Interest and G(I) Medicine or Acute Medicine
* Broad experience in Specialty and G(I)M/Acute Medicine
* Current ALS certificate
Desirable
* Ability to organise and deliver a teaching programme
* Experience in SDEC and/or ambulatory care
Knowledge
Essential
* G(I)M and the specialist skills required for this post
* Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit and demonstrable commitment to improving the quality of care for patients
* Understanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to life-long learning
Skills
Essential
* Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of supervising medical staff
* Ability to teach medical students and junior medical and nursing staff.
Desirable
* Ability to motivate busy clinicians to engage in teaching
* Ability to develop research projects and supervise trainees in their research
