Head of Product Design Location: Harmsworth Media Headquarters – London Position: Permanent Workplace Type: hybrid 3 days per week at the following address: 9 Derry Street, Kensington, W8 5HY Job Introduction As the Head of Product Design for Harmsworth Media, you will lead our efforts to significantly elevate the end-to-end customer experience across all our digital touchpoints to drive reader engagement and drive subscriber revenue growth. You will be the guardian of our product design strategy and approach, working closely with editorial, technology, and marketing teams to drive innovation and deliver exceptional user experiences across our digital platforms. Main Responsibilities Design Strategy and Execution: Develop and implement the overall design strategy for the product, aligning with the company's business objectives. Oversee the entire design process, from concept to launch, ensuring consistency and quality across all digital touchpoints. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product management, engineering, marketing, etc.) to define and prioritize design initiatives. Customer Journey Mapping: Create and maintain detailed customer journey maps to understand user needs, pain points, and opportunities for improvement. Identify key touchpoints and interactions to optimize the user experience. Collaborate with user research teams to gather insights and validate design decisions. Digital Touchpoint Design: Lead the design and development of all digital customer touchpoints, including: Web: Websites, landing pages, and web applications. App: Mobile and tablet applications. Newsletters: Email campaigns and other digital communications. Ensure a consistent and intuitive user experience across all platforms. Stay up to date with the latest design trends and technologies to drive innovation. Customer Research and Analysis: Oversee user research activities, including surveys, interviews, and usability testing. Analyze user data to identify patterns, trends, and areas for improvement. Use insights to inform design decisions and optimize the user experience. Feedback Loops: Establish and maintain effective feedback loops to gather user feedback and measure the impact of design changes. Implement a process for iterating on designs based on user feedback and performance metrics. Prioritize design improvements based on their potential impact on user satisfaction and business goals. Team Leadership and Management: Recruit, hire, and manage a talented team of designers. Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities. Foster a collaborative and creative work environment. Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and recognize and reward team members' contributions. By effectively fulfilling these responsibilities, the Head of Product Design will play a crucial role in shaping the company's digital products and services, driving user satisfaction, and contributing to overall business success. Person Specification 5 years of experience in product design. The ideal candidate would have experience taking a product from ideation to launch. Proven track record of building, leading, and nurturing product design teams and delivering successful digital products, specifically experience matching users' needs and expectations while also creating a sustainable business. Strong strategic thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to translate data into actionable insights. Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills. Deep understanding of user experience principles, customer research and feedback methodologies and tools enabling rapid concept iteration at scale. Experience with agile development methodologies and product management tools. Passion for journalism, digital media, and creating impactful user experiences.
