We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Net Zero Energy Business. This position would be based in Glasgow, Bristol or Stockton, with a flexible mixture of home-working and office/site collaboration time expected. We also welcome applicants wishing to work part-time.

Our Net Zero business unit is a multi-disciplinary team that offers a stimulating variety of work, from feasibility studies through to detailed design, site surveys, design verification or site-based secondments. We are currently delivering a portfolio of projects such as hydrogen production, hydrogen storage and industrial decarbonisation.

Your Purpose:
Do you enjoy a wide variety of tasks and projects? We are looking for someone versatile; you could be working on a small individual assignment or as part of a larger, multi-disciplinary team. You will enjoy working closely with clients on a range of demanding issues whilst helping to mentor and train more junior colleagues.
Overall, you get satisfaction from building relationships, with clients and with colleagues. You enjoy getting to know people, and working out how you can have a positive impact on them – whether that’s delivering something that a client needs or helping someone to progress within the organisation.
Examples of the types of work you will be involved in:
1. Leading technical aspects of mechanical engineering projects. This may be over a range of design phases, from optioneering through to detailed design.
2. Supervising, developing, and mentoring others.
Within our Net Zero Engineering Business, the mechanical team has a focus on diversifying the energy mix in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. This includes power generation (from gas, biomass, hydro and nuclear), natural gas cavern storage, hydrogen (production & cavern storage), and industrial decarbonisation.
What you can bring?
In addition to having strong communication and leadership skills, key attributes include the following:
1. Master’s degree (MEng/MSc) qualified Mechanical Engineer.
2. Chartered Engineer and a member of IMechE is desirable.
3. Strong technical background.
4. Experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g., power, chemical, oil & gas) is desirable.
Some examples of the experience that would be of benefit are:
1. Pipe stress analysis.
2. Equipment specification and engineering specification writing.
3. Experience of attendance at site for surveys and operations.
4. High temperature component life assessment.
5. Fitness for service assessments.
6. Pressure part design calculations.
7. Plant layout design.
8. Pipeline routing and design.
9. Checking and providing assurance of deliverables.
