This role is ideal for individuals with a strong passion for inclusive education and a desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of pupils with special educational needs.
About the Role:
The Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant will work alongside teachers and SEN specialists to provide tailored support to students with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, speech and language difficulties, and social-emotional challenges. This role focuses on building trust, encouraging independence, and helping students overcome barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN, both in class and in intervention sessions.
* Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual student needs.
* Support students’ emotional wellbeing, encouraging positive self-esteem and resilience.
* Implement behaviour management strategies and foster a respectful, inclusive classroom environment.
* Assist teachers in delivering differentiated lessons and assessing pupil progress.
* Liaise with SENCOs, external agencies, and families to support holistic development.
* Help students with transitions between activities and throughout the school day.
Job Requirements:
* Prior experience working with SEN pupils in a secondary school setting is highly desirable.
* Sound understanding of SEN strategies and inclusive teaching practices.
* A patient, empathetic, and adaptable attitude towards supporting young people with diverse needs.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships with pupils.
* A relevant qualification in education, SEN, or youth support (e.g. Level 2/3 TA or SEN qualification) is beneficial.
* Familiarity with safeguarding protocols and behaviour management techniques.
* Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
