As an Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO), your key responsibilities will be:
1. Child-Centered Reviews : Coordinate and chair reviews for children in care, ensuring their thoughts and feelings are considered in the planning process. Ensure care plans are promptly implemented and monitored for effectiveness.
2. Communication and Reporting : Liaise with staff across agencies to ensure effective review and care planning processes. Produce timely, outcome-focused reports after each review that clearly outline how the care plan is being implemented.
3. Quality Assurance and Development : Contribute to the evaluation and monitoring of practice standards, playing a key role in quality assurance and auditing services for children in care. Be a member of the Children’s Safeguarding and Reviewing Unit, contributing to its development and policy-making.
4. Support and Advocacy : Support parental participation, ensure children have access to representation and advocacy services, and make sure they’re aware of the complaints procedure. Investigate complaints from children and families under the Children Act 1989 and Children’s Complaints Procedure.
5. Training and Awareness : Design and facilitate training programs for practitioners and managers, and remain aware of developments in relation to relevant research, legislation, guidelines, and departmental procedures. Ensure implementation of Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities policies and procedures.
As an IRO, you are required to:
6. A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience in a related field.
7. Experience of all service user groups and with users from ethnic minorities
8. Experience of residential and family placement services.
9. Experience of child protection work.
10. Professional Social Work qualification DipSW or equivalent.
11. Registered with SWE
