Position Overview:
As an Insect Technician at Flybox, you will be vital to cultivating and maintaining insect colonies. You will engage in hands-on work, ensuring the health and growth of our insects by optimising their environmental conditions. Reporting to the Research and Development Manager, you'll collaborate with a dynamic team committed to sustainability and innovation. You’ll have the opportunity to grow in responsibilities and contribute to many ongoing scientific and engineering research projects. You’ll be part of new projects and developments and help design new studies teasing apart questions in the field of insect farming.
Key Responsibilities:
* Independently and collaboratively perform high-standard husbandry tasks, including preparing diets, recording metrics, setting up insects for specific life stages, and cleaning.
* Accurately record metrics and maintain spreadsheets.
* Communicate any issues with equipment or breeding stocks to the facility manager promptly.
* Innovate and propose improvements to procedures, conducting experimental work to test new methods.
* Uphold high Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards.
* Responsible for Fire Safety once trained.
* Source new materials for the lab.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field is advantageous.
* Electrical or lab experience is a plus.
* Genuine interest in working with insects and ability to handle maggots.
* Manual dexterity and keen observational skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Proficiency in computer use, particularly with spreadsheet software.
* Strong organisational skills.
* Proficiency in written and spoken English.
* Ability to carry up to 20kg.
* Willingness to provide rare weekend cover.

Salary: from £26,000 per annum dependent on experience
