Class 1 Personnel are working with Local Council to recruit an experienced Tree Surgeon to work on maintaining the Council owned trees, based in and around Kidderminster area.
Reporting to Head of Environmental Services you will also be responsible for supervision of trainee staff in regards to H&S work practices.
Main Duties for Tree Surgeon:
1. Required to undertake all aspects of arboriculture and forestry with particular emphasis on climbing and high-level tree work operations to industry standards. Required to work as a lead climber.
2. To organise all the resources required to complete a task, getting everything to site to ensure a high-performance rate and minimising wastage as much as possible and in so doing achieving set targets.
3. To assist with the activities of a small team of arboricultural staff, ensuring this is carried out safely, efficiently, competently and to a high standard.
4. To undertake training and instruction as may be required by management to ensure the safe and efficient performance of the service.
5. To direct and supervise the work of trainees, volunteers, students, work placements and contractors in line with the needs of the service.
6. To participate in routine machinery maintenance, ensuring correct and safe use of equipment and vehicles; to maintain and report on the level of equipment spares and the completion of maintenance records.
7. To participate in the application of herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides including the maintenance of records to comply with health and safety legislation and departmental safety policy.
8. To survey/inspect trees using relevant software.
9. To maintain the confidentiality of personal and sensitive information.
10. To have a flexible approach to the work required to be undertaken, to assist other employees and ensure that the administrative needs of the Division are met.
Essential Requirement for Tree Surgeon Role:
1. You must be able to receive and understand both written and verbal instruction, working within a small team.
2. You will be required to work as a lead climber. All applicants must possess all relevant NPTC Units ( Level 3 awards CS30, CS31, CS32, CS35, CS38, CS39, CS40 or equivalent).
3. You must possess a full driving licence.
4. You must be physically capable to climb trees to a great height and have practical experience at various Tree Surgery operations.
5. Have a minimum of 2 years Tree Surgery experience.
6. To work outside normal office hours from time to time as the demands of the post and emergencies dictate.

8. To carry out any other duties and responsibilities within the scope of this post which may be allocated from time to time by the Head of Community & Environment Services or authorised representative.
9. You are required to wear all appropriate safety clothing at all times when working with dangerous machinery and chemicals. To wear appropriate reflective clothing when working on the highway.
10. To act in accordance with the Working at Height Regulations 2005 (amended).
11. To handle all equipment, tools, machinery and chemicals in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, PUWER & LOLER regulations. To be aware of and act in accordance with the Council's Health and Safety Policies and Risk Assessments.
Desirable Requirements for Tree Surgeon Role:
1. Applicants will have practical experience with operating mobile woodchippers, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms and Stump Grinders.
2. You will have experience at working with traffic safety measures for street works and road works.
3. Successfully completed a Level 2/3 qualification in arboriculture, horticulture or forestry.
4. Have PA1 & PA6 certificates in the storage and use of pesticides.
Additional Details for Tree Surgeon Role:
1. You may be required to work additional hours to meet the needs of the service. This may include overtime both on week days and weekends. The Post holder will be required to provide an out of hours emergency service.
2. Reasonable adjustments will be considered as required by the Equality Act 2010.
3. Time off in lieu will be permitted in respect of any overtime worked, provided that it can be accommodated within departmental operational schedules. There is no entitlement to overtime payments.

Person Specification:
1. You will have good verbal and written communication skills and giving clear instructions to the team you are working with.
2. You will be an experienced Tree Surgeon.
3. Comfortable with using a variety of role specific tools and maintaining these.
4. Ability to work to deadlines.
5. Must have a Full driving licence with C1+E and have a valid CPC and Tacho Card.
6. You must be physically fit for this role and comfortable outside in all weather conditions.
7. You must be comfortable undertaking Tree Surgeon activity whilst working at heights and in tree canopies.
This role is working a standard 37hr week Monday to Friday, working 08:00 to 16:00 with the expectation that overtime and emergency call outs will be required from time to time.
We are offering a pay rate of £15.00ph for this role. This is a temporary position initial until 17th January where the role will be assessed for possible extension.
