An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Health Care Assistant to work within the specialist outpatient gynaecology clinics based on Horsted Keynes and Gynaecology Outpatient Centre. These fast-paced clinics run on weekdays for colposcopy, diagnostic and treatment hysteroscopy, rapid access cancer pathway, and general gynaecology clinics.
We are looking for a highly motivated healthcare assistant to join our established professional and supportive outpatient nursing team. You will work closely with your registered nursing colleagues and the medical teams to provide compassionate care and support to patients during their appointment.
This is a full-time position working on a rota that covers the hours of 8 am - 6 pm Monday to Friday.
Who we're looking for:
* Previous experience of working as an HCA (or equivalent) in a hospital setting.
* Experience within gynaecology or outpatient setting would be desirable.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
* Knowledge of relevant IT systems is desirable but can be taught.
* Level 2 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support, Health & Social Care or NVQ Level 2 or 3.
Main duties of the job
* To actively monitor and maintain high standards of care and to promote health education.
* To establish quickly a friendly and appropriate rapport with patients and other service users.
* Undertake housekeeping duties such as cleaning couches, disposal of linen, cleaning, and tidying up.
* To actively participate in the day-to-day upkeep of stock levels and cleanliness within the clinics.
* Knowledge of Trust Policies on infection control, disposal of sharps, and clinical waste.
* To have good knowledge of the Trust IT systems including Panda, ICE, Careflow & CRIS.
* Provide clerical assistance requesting notes, collecting and filing reports, photocopying.
* To prepare screening rooms, clinic rooms, and equipment for ultrasound and gynaecological procedures.
* Correctly identify and prepare patients for the appropriate procedure.
* Ensure effective communication with patients and relatives, explaining procedures, giving advice and reassurance.
* To be competent in assisting with telephone queries.
* To be actively involved in each procedure, i.e., setting up sterile trolley with all correct equipment for each specialised procedure.
* Preparing appropriate paperwork and labels for specimens. Concise record keeping of specimens taken to laboratory.

Job responsibilities
Communication
* Interact with patients, visitors, and colleagues in a professional manner at all times.
* Report / action any accidents, incidents or undue occurrences reported or witnessed.
* Ensure the provision of clear and appropriate verbal and written communication with patients, carers, and the multidisciplinary team at all times.

* Liaise with the Gynaecology clinic and ward team as appropriate.
* Build effective relationships with patients, relatives, and carers, and other members of the nursing and multi-disciplinary team.

* To ensure infection control procedures and cleanliness are performed in line with Trust policies and procedures.
* Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the department staff, taking action where necessary and reporting issues of concern to the senior staff nurse.
* Understand and implement the Trust's policies as appropriate for the clinic setting.
* Maintain awareness of professional and organisational developments.
* Attend and participate in regular departmental meetings.
