Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

Job overview
Due to retirement of the previous job holder we have an exciting and rare opportunity to take on the role of principal pharmacist for oncology.
The post holder will work with the associate chief pharmacist for clinical services to deliver oncology services to our large patient number of both inpatients and outpatients
Main duties of the job
• The delivery, management and development of Oncology / Haematology Pharmacy Services throughout theTrust in accordance with professional standards and Medicines Management Frameworks.
• Providing expert paediatric clinical pharmacy advice, undertaking risk management assessments and ensuring compliance with relevant medicines legislation and CQC standards.
• Leading and developing audit and research within Oncology / Haematology Pharmacy Services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To manage and develop the provision of a safe and effective paediatric pharmacy service to the Oncology / Haematology multidisciplinary team within the Division of Medicine including prescription verification and clinical monitoring of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT).
· To provide expert advice on paediatric drug therapy to pharmacy, nursing and medical staff across the Trust in relation to Oncology / Haematology services.
· To lead the Oncology / Haematology Pharmacy Team, including pharmacists and technicians and ensure the provision of in-house specialist paediatric Oncology / Haematology training for all pharmacists andtechnicians is relative to their needs
· To liaise with senior clinicians across the Oncology / Haematology service regarding safe medication practice and risk management
· To be responsible for the management, development and implementation of computerised prescribing for SACT
· To contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of the Division’s Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration system
· To develop, implement and monitor pharmaceutical standards of care, undertake audit and research within the paediatric Oncology / Haematology Pharmacy Service.
Person specification
Education and Training
* Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council
* Vocational master’s degree in pharmacy
* 1 year pre-registration training and experience
Experience
* Significant post registration experience including experience working in a clinical specialty
* Advanced clinical knowledge of pharmaceutical care of paediatric patients
* Line management or supervisory experience
* Pharmacy teaching experience
* Previous experience of induction training for new clinical staff
* Risk Management and promotion of the Medication Safety agenda
* Experience and knowledge of chemotherapy drug preparation
* Experience of the business planning cycle
* Experience of working with electronic prescribing and Medicines Administration systems
* Advanced clinical knowledge of pharmaceutical care of oncology patients with significant amount in oncology pharmacy
Knowledge
* Good understanding of the role of the clinical pharmacist in the context of the NHS
