Role Overview
We are seeking a Legal Counsel to support our growing UK operations. This role will focus on providing strategic legal guidance for commercial agreements, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, and cross-border R&D initiatives. You will act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders, balancing legal rigor with business innovation in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Commercial & Contract Law: Draft, negotiate, and manage high-stakes agreements (e.g., NDAs, R&D partnerships, procurement contracts, licensing deals).
* IP Strategy: Advise on patent portfolios, technology transfer agreements, and IP protection strategies for collaborations with universities and industry partners.
* Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to UK/EU laws, including GDPR, anti-bribery, modern slavery, and export control regulations.
* Risk Mitigation: Identify legal risks in R&D projects, manufacturing, and global supply chains, proposing actionable solutions.
* Training & Governance: Develop and deliver compliance training programs; refine internal legal frameworks and policies.
* Global Collaboration: Support international projects, addressing multi-jurisdictional legal challenges and alignment with corporate standards.
Essential Requirements
* Legal Qualification: Qualified solicitor or barrister in the UK or a reciprocally recognized jurisdiction (e.g., Ireland) with 3+ years PQE.
* Core Expertise:
* Proven experience in commercial law, IP management, and regulatory compliance (tech, ICT, or manufacturing sectors preferred).
* Strong drafting skills for complex contracts (e.g., joint development agreements, SaaS, licensing).
* Technical Knowledge:
* Familiarity with R&D collaborations, data privacy frameworks, and export controls (ECJU experience a plus).
* Understanding of emerging tech trends (AI, IoT, 5G) and their legal implications.
* Soft Skills: Business-oriented mindset, ability to simplify legal jargon, and collaborate across cultures.
Desirable Attributes
* Experience in tech-transfer processes or public-funded research programs (e.g., Horizon Europe).
* Exposure to Web3, fintech, or decentralized technologies.
* Proficiency in additional languages (e.g., Mandarin, French, Nordic languages).
