There is an opportunity for a band 7 advanced oncology dietitian. The role will work with a band 6 oncology dietitian to deliver a specialist oncology dietetic service to the Gateshead locality whilst providing professional leadership. The role will involve ongoing evaluation of the service.
Main duties of the job
To develop, lead and co-ordinate the dietetic service provision for the Oncology and Oncology Home Enteral Tube Feeding service, providing leadership, development and governance in relation to the speciality as well as supporting other clinicians regarding patient treatment and management.
To provide professional, highly specialised dietetic assessment, education and intervention to adult patients and their families/carers across Gateshead in a range of settings within the speciality of oncology and oncology home enteral feeding.
To act as a clinical specialist in oncology and oncology home enteral tube feeding, working within a multidisciplinary team.
To regularly undertake and lead on research, audit, service evaluation as well as training of other healthcare professionals within the specialist area, having responsibility for policy and service development within this area.
Job responsibilities
To provide highly specialised clinical expertise and advice to medical, nursing, other health professionals, patients and their families/carers within a range of settings.
To use highly developed specialist dietetic knowledge and expertise to provide appropriate dietary advice to manage a caseload of complex oncology patients, as well as supporting their family/caregivers where needed.
To take the lead in providing expert dietetic advice regarding commencement or withdrawal of artificial nutritional support. This highly contentious, sensitive and emotive area will require analysing highly complex, conflicting information, and evidenced based decisions will be required.
To provide continuing community support, social and clinical care for referred patients.
To regularly provide education and training sessions for multidisciplinary staff consisting of medical, nursing and allied health professionals, AHPs, in oncology, ensuring clinical effectiveness.
To participate in complex audits, monitoring, evaluation and development of the oncology dietetic service. To work with relevant stakeholders to undertake written publications relating to any completed research.
To provide clinical expertise within oncology and palliative care including delivery of education and participation within research within this specialist area.
To supervise junior members of staff and be actively involved in the co-ordination and undertaking of the training of student Dietitians.

Qualifications and Training
* Degree or post graduate diploma/ Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics
* Relevant postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience in community dietetics at masters level
* Current HCPC registration
* Member of BDA
* Evidence of professional development
* Experience of training and supervising student dietitians
* Teaching qualification

* Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills
* Competent to manage nutritional support and enteral feeding regimes in adults
