Trainee Project Engineer – 2025 - London
We are excited to launch our Apprentice and Trainee roles, starting in September 2025!
Are you ready to kickstart your career in a team where you can make a difference?
Skanska, one of the world’s leading project development and construction groups, is an inclusive and responsible business that is helping to build a better society.
Our apprentice and trainee programmes will help you build and establish a career where you will have the freedom to learn, achieve your ambitions and leave your mark on the communities in which we work.
Working as part of our building services teams, potentially working in Healthcare, Defence, Education and commercial sectors, we are now looking for enthusiastic Trainee MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Public Health) Project Engineers to join our 2025 development programme and help us shape the future.
What youll do:
1. Work alongside experienced engineers and construction professionals. Together, you will be solving engineering challenges that arise during the construction of buildings. No one day is the same.
2. Learn to design, plan and oversee the installation of building services systems. These include electrical systems, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, drainage, renewable technologies and other bits and bobs that bring a building to life.
3. Co-ordinating site activities to make sure works get done safely, on time and to meet environmental legislation.
4. Drawing up and translating plans using CAD (computer aided design) and BIM (building information modelling) software.
5. Assisting with estimating and tenders in the pre-construction stage.
6. Over time, you will learn to develop cost effective technical and sustainable design solutions involving the production of 3D models, calculations, specifications, reports and drawings.
7. Overall, you will be assisting with design, planning, health & safety, site operations and commercial tasks.
What youll bring to the role:
1. 5 GCSEs at Grades 5-9 including Maths (Grade 6-9), English and Science or their equivalent.
2. You will enjoy working with other people.
3. Enthusiasm to learn and proactive approach to work.
4. You will need to be comfortable with Maths and Physics as engineering is built on these fundamental skills.
5. New ideas to help us innovate and work better.
What we offer:
1. You will be a part of a community of 100+ graduates and apprentices.
2. Funding and support to help you achieve a formal qualification.
3. We want you to do well and will support you to have a meaningful career beyond the apprenticeship.
4. Support and guidance from experienced leaders and teams.
5. Professional and social events.
6. Opportunities to volunteer in the local community at least one day per year.
7. Support to achieve your professional accreditation and expenses covered for the professional membership of your choice.
8. Access to our employee networks - these include: Womxn’s, Ability, Pride, O.N.E (Origins, Nationalities & Ethnicities), Military, and Mental Health & Wellbeing.
9. My Rewards – an array of retail, dining, well-being and travel discounts.
10. Cycle to work scheme.
11. Flex-It programme to achieve a work life balance where possible.
12. You would be joining a mental health aware organisation where we offer wellbeing support through our employee assistance programme; mental health ambassador network and awareness discussions.
What qualification will you be studying towards?
You will be studying a Level 3 Building services engineering technician qualification initially; however, we would expect and encourage you to progress on to Level 4 or Level 6 after you have completed Level 3.
