Estimator – Remote - £65,000
A great opportunity has presented itself with one of our key clients who are looking to take on an Estimator within the Building Management Systems (BMS) industry to join their dynamic team.

The BMS Estimator position
In this role, you will have a strong background in Building Management Systems, commissioning and engineering. This role is crucial for accurately estimating project costs, ensuring competitive and profitable bids, and contributing to the successful delivery of their BMS solutions. This role is 90% remote with bimonthly meetings in the first 6 months. Open to candidates within the UK but you would need to be prepared to travel to the office, based in the South East of England, when required.
Main responsibilities
1. Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for control and automation projects across various sectors including labs, science centres, MOD sites, and commercial buildings.
2. Analyse project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to understand the scope of work and identify key requirements. Attend occasional site surveys ahead of costing.
3. Collaborate with engineering, commissioning, and project management teams to gather necessary information and insights for precise estimations.
4. Utilize your expertise in Trend systems to ensure all relevant components and functionalities are accounted for in the estimates.
5. Evaluate supplier quotes to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
6. Maintain and update the company database of historical costs and pricing to support future estimates and improve accuracy.
7. Participate in bid review meetings, providing insights and recommendations to optimize project profitability and feasibility.
8. Assist in the development of proposals and tender documents, ensuring all financial aspects are clearly articulated.
9. Continuously monitor industry trends, material costs, and market conditions to update and refine estimation practices.
10. Support project managers during the handover process by providing detailed documentation and clarification of estimated costs.
Experience required
1. Experience in estimating within the control and automation systems industry.
2. Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) is essential but applicants with previous Electrical Estimating experience are welcome to apply.
3. Proficiency with Trend systems or any other BMS knowledge (i.e., Tridium, Cylon, or Distech) as well as a deep understanding of their application in control and automation projects.
4. Strong background in commissioning and engineering processes related to automation systems.
5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
6. Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project).
7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
8. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising on accuracy.
9. Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
Preferred qualifications
1. Professional certifications related to estimating, project management, or automation systems.
2. Experience with building management systems (BMS) and energy management systems (EMS).
3. Familiarity with AutoCAD or other design software.
Salary and Benefits
Competitive salary circa £65,000, open to negotiation dependent on experience. Working pattern
Monday to Friday 8:30 to 5pm. No overtime expectations. Remote Work (work from home 90%). During the first 6 months, bi-monthly meetings with line manager. No on-call responsibilities.
Person profile
You will be conscientious and mindful of your work and responsibilities. Quotations and proposals to be produced on a regular basis, averaging 4-5 proposals every week. Timely response on follow-up questions from customers.
Performance will be measured on the quality of the work (proposals), updating records regularly, accuracy, and technical interpretation of mechanical equipment schedules, mechanical schematics, and M&E specifications.
