Head of Collections Conservation & Care - Swindon Summary INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY PLEASE We are looking for a Head of Collections Conservation and Care to join us, on a 9-month fixed term contract. This important role will support the application of collections and interiors conservation practice, engagement and advocacy at sites across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to deliver our new strategy. This exciting role provides an opportunity for a conservation professional to gain additional experience of leadership and management. The role will support the evolution of our work and set us up to deliver our new strategy, providing collaborative leadership to the professional communities of preventive and remedial conservation. Salary: £67,236 to £71,526 dependent on experience What it's like to work here As this is a national role, there is flexibility on your contractual place of work. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places or externally. We will talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site or external meetings for 40–60% of your working week. This role will require working at multiple sites across our organization and externally so travel will be required, sometimes on a weekly basis. What you'll be doing You will bring experience as a collections conservation professional, a strategic mindset and a key interest in how you can contribute to the new strategy implementation. You will lead on actively supporting fundraising for remedial collections conservation working with our fundraising team and support the review of our conservation guidance and procedures focusing on topics such as significance, agile cleaning, and tools to enable increased visitor access. With the oversight of our centrally run conservation studios (Knole and Blickling), you will support the pipeline for remedial conservation and critically increase conservation engagement, as well as support ongoing projects including the Discovery Houses programme. Your strategic leadership skills will allow you to set an enabling and creative culture among your team, supporting evolution in practice and leading for change to support our strategy. You will maintain and enhance our external reputation for collections conservation and care and support conservation research ensuring effective reputational impact internally and externally. Who we're looking for We’d love to hear from you if you have: A background in collections/heritage conservation leadership Experience as a creative and pragmatic team leader and team coach Confidence in leading for and enabling appropriate change. The ability to work pragmatically as part of a wider Curatorial and Conservation leadership team in a joined-up way, collaborating and sharing learning and ideas. Relevant professional qualification in preventive and remedial conservation and extensive in-depth knowledge and experience of conservation of collections. Broad knowledge and significant experience in the application of conservation principles in heritage settings. An aptitude for building mutually effective relationships with related professionals internally and externally Planning, organization and presentation skills.
