This will involve material spectral characterisation, and use of hyperspectral imaging techniques to qualify desirable biomass. This 18-month, full-time position is funded by our industry partner IMRANDD and Innovate UK. The successful appointee shall be based at IMRANDD’s facility in Aberdeen and the project will involve working closely with colleagues at Heriot-Watt University’s Riccarton campus in Edinburgh. IMRANDD provides engineering consultancy services and software solutions to continual process industries; these predict failures and improve safety, operational performance and profitability. We have wide ranging experience of disciplines such as process design, chemical management, materials sciences, non-destructive testing and inspection, structural and mechanical engineering and advanced data science. We have capitalised on this to develop a range of unique patented software tools that can gather, sort and condition very large data sets across an entire plant’s operations and provide near live process monitoring and detection of internal plant threats. This project represents an exciting new direction for the business as we seek to further support our moves into the syngas field. It has a critical place within the business and will be responsible for the transfer of knowledge from Heriot-Watt University to IMRANDD and contribute to market growth for the business. Key Duties and Responsibilities The successful appointee will be expected to undertake the following: Develop and implement in-line imaging cameras with a compensative biogenic materials database using industry standard analytical measurements to validate the spectral results. Design and set-up extensive laboratory experiments and clinical tests to evaluate the effect of bio-waste variability on syngas quality Lead the analysis and interpretation of research data, and develop required outputs drawn from the research findings Plan and manage the activity of the project in line with the identified workplan Contribute to, and lead, results dissemination Actively participate in the activities of the wider business Please note that this job description is not exhaustive, and the role holder may be required to undertake other relevant duties commensurate with the salary of the post. Activities may be subject to amendment over time as the role develops and/or priorities and requirements evolve. A flexible working schedule may be required to meet all key duties and responsibilities. The role shall be primarily based at IMRANDD’s Aberdeen office, with provision of laboratory space made by HWU (Edinburgh campus) for the experimental portion of the project. We will measure applicants based on the essential criteria, not by the key duties.
