The Role
This role entails positively engaging with education providers across the borough to support and develop a network that encourages the sharing of intelligence about young people at risk of offending, or becoming victims of crime, or exploitation.
You will provide support to schools around early interventions and diversionary pathways to help young people to deal with the risk of offending and or becoming victims of crime. This will include encouraging early help, restorative practice and identifying appropriate pathways of support and intervention.
You will provide day to day co-ordination of the Prevention, Intervention, Education and Diversion Project (PIED) working in conjunction with a range of services including Community Safety, the Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) and school-based police officers, ensuring clear pathways of support are available for young people on the periphery of offending. This will include identification for young people eligible for the MOJ Turnaround Programme.
About You
The successful candidate will have a knowledge and awareness of the impact of offending or being a victim of offending on young people, as well as an understanding of the vulnerabilities and risk factors that they may be exposed to.
You will be able to work across several partner agencies, building positive relationships, to develop multi agency strategies and pathways to support young people into positive diversionary activities. You will work alongside police colleagues to provide the day to day co-ordination of the PIED model including an ability to set up triage systems and chair meetings.
The ability to engage young people and their families positively is essential. Tenacity and resilience are a must in this role.
