Grid Engineering Manager – Leading Solar & BESS Developer
A fast-growing renewable energy developer with a 2.3GW pipeline is seeking a Grid Engineering Manager to play a key role in securing and optimising grid connections for utility-scale solar and battery storage projects. With several projects set for construction over the next three years, this is an opportunity to join a dynamic team at a pivotal stage of growth.
The Grid Engineering Manager will work closely with the Head of Grid to develop and implement a grid-first strategy, ensuring projects are designed and delivered in a way that maximises grid opportunities. The role will involve securing grid capacity, managing grid applications, negotiating connection agreements, and working with ICPs and DNOs to deliver efficient, cost-effective grid connections.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage the grid connection process for large-scale solar and BESS projects from feasibility to energisation.
2. Support grid capacity assessments for early-stage developments, acquisitions, and project disposals.
3. Negotiate grid offers with DNOs/NESO, ensuring favourable terms on pricing, milestones, and payments.
4. Prepare and submit grid applications (DNO/NESO) and Mod-app applications to accelerate connections.
5. Work with ICPs to tender, select, and manage partners for grid design and construction.
6. Stay up to date with regulatory changes impacting grid connections and network constraints.
7. Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including DNOs, NESO, and ICPs.
Requirements
1. 5+ years’ experience in grid connection management within a DNO/NGET/NESO, renewable energy developer, grid consultancy, or ICP.
2. Strong technical knowledge of grid capacity assessment, connection agreements, and network regulations.
3. Experience managing ICP contracts and overseeing grid design and construction.
4. Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
5. Commercial awareness and problem-solving mindset to navigate grid connection challenges.
6. Ability to engage effectively with DNOs, NESO, ICPs, and internal stakeholders.
