A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Estate Surveyor / Manager to carry out and oversee the management of this 15-Generation family-run estate, which principally comprises farmland, woodland, and let commercial and residential portfolios. Some of the estate ownership includes areas of common land and SSSI. A motivated and skilled professional is sought to make a lasting positive impact.
Position Overview
The successful candidate will play the main role in optimising land and property use and income in a sustainable way, engaging with tenants, contractors, third parties and estate staff, and will be responsible for overseeing a wide range of activities, from refurbishments to grant applications, and from insurance matters to lease agreements.
Key Responsibilities
* Advising on and overseeing the management of the estate's let and in-hand property portfolios
* Appointing, instructing, and monitoring contractors and other relevant third parties
* Maintaining the estate terrier and seeking market terms including rents
* Reporting to owners and Trustees at Estate Meetings and at other times
* Preparing estate meeting reports, including commenting on projects, budgets, and accounts
* Submitting applications for grants and instructing and monitoring resulting work
* Investigating and implementing new income opportunities
* Identifying and progressing 'natural capital' opportunities
* Managing maintenance of buildings and fixtures, and reviewing and instructing specifications of work for repairs and refurbishments
* Liaison with the local community on relevant land and property matters
* Carrying out or arranging routine management activities such as lease renewals, rent reviews, new lettings, licences and other agreements
* Reviewing contracts e.g. telephone, fibre, electricity
* Reviewing and approving invoices and recharges
* Providing general advice on land management, public rights of way, and on managing the estate holistically e.g. trees, landscape, heritage etc
* Handling the insurance renewals and claims through liaison with others
* Reviewing Health and Safety policies with external advisors
Requirements
* RICS or similar qualification
* Minimum 5 years’ PQE or similar
* Technological proficiency
* Motivated Self-Starter and ability to motivate others
* Excellent organisational and time-management skills
* Strong supervisory and management abilities
* Mathematical aptitude and high level of writing skill
* Negotiation skills e.g. terms of contracts and fees and charges
* Full driving licence
