The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
We are looking for an outstanding individual to join our well-established team of clinical pharmacists, providing a comprehensive and high-quality clinical pharmacy service across the Trust's medical and surgical services.
Main duties of the job
The post will be initially based within the surgical team providing a clinical pharmacy service to a variety of surgical specialities across the trust. You will join a team of experienced pharmacists and technicians covering the directorates of General Surgery, Urology, Musculoskeletal Services, Neurosciences, and ENT / Plastics / Ophthalmology / Dermatology. The postholder will be given the responsibility for a variety of clinical areas under the supervision of the lead clinical pharmacist for the specialist area, and they will get the opportunity to periodically rotate through these areas building experience and expertise in a wide variety of clinical settings. There may also be the opportunity to rotate through the medicines directorate.
You will be expected to attend consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings where appropriate, and also provide support and training to nursing staff, pharmacy technicians, and junior pharmacists. You will also help support senior pharmacy staff in promoting the safe, effective, and economic use of medicines via audit and guideline development.
There are many opportunities to participate in training and education, and we have strong links with the local pharmacy and medical schools. All pharmacists are expected to participate in in-house education sessions for pharmacy staff. There may also be opportunities to deliver training sessions to junior doctors and medical students.
Job responsibilities
This post will support, and further augment, our clinical pharmacy service to both RVI and Freeman sites on a rotational basis. Attendance at consultant-led ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings would also be required.
We require motivated and enthusiastic pharmacists, who are registered with the GPhC, with significant post-qualification experience, to become members of our team. Candidates who possess an independent prescribing (IP) qualification will be encouraged to use this within an agreed sub-specialty, once training objectives are complete. Our team currently supports IP activity in many inpatient areas.
Successful candidates will be expected to participate in extended hours services for one year post-appointment and then subsequently in the weekend and Bank Holiday rota, which provides clinical pharmacist support on RVI/Freeman sites, 7 days a week.

As a flexible working friendly organisation, we want to be sure that you can work in a way that is best for us and for our patients, and for you.
