With established manufacturing sites globally, we are now seeking to recruit additional permanent staff due to expansion at our facility in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.
ABOUT THE JOB: The Manufacturing Engineer will primarily be responsible for planning CNC programs to control contour path machining of metal/composite parts on automatic machine tools.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
1. An established background in the precision engineering industry, manufacturing mechanical components to high tolerances, in a variety of metals.
2. A minimum of 5 years of experience of undertaking off-line CNC programming, using CAD/CAM software within a lean-manufacturing work environment.
3. Previous experience with Gibbs CAM software is an advantage.
4. Experienced with the use of precision inspection equipment including CMM, micrometres, callipers, height gauges and bore gauges.
5. Qualified to a minimum of NVQ 3, or equivalent such as a time-served apprenticeship or HNC in Mechanical Engineering.
6. Prince2 or similar project management experience would be an advantage.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
1. Analyse drawings and design data to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, machine speeds and feed rates, determining reference points and direction of machine cutting paths.
2. Analyse routings at programming stage and update processes to guarantee CNC machine tools are used to their fullest capability. This must be done using creativity, vision, and an organized plan for the future.
3. Compute angular and linear dimensions, radii and curvatures, and outline sequence of operations required to machine parts.
4. Create, revise and edit CNC Programs in line with routed operations, create set-up documents to supplement written programs.
5. Liaise with shop floor personnel, Shift Managers, and suppliers regarding required tooling and fixtures.
6. Creation of bills of material for manufactured components.
7. Creation of routings for manufactured components including route card improvements (clear programs created and tooling identified).
8. Analyse and advise on make vs purchasing decisions.
9. Identify and implement solutions that lead to cost savings.
10. Apply principles of Lean Manufacturing to reduce setup times and improve productivity.
11. Actively seek out and identify Continuous Improvement opportunities.
