You will be expected to:
* Provide a highly specialised range of clinical interventions and knowledge of evidence-based models of practice relevant to the care group.
* Deliver a high standard of evidence-based inpatient nursing care in the designated clinical setting in partnership with the team, the service users and where appropriate their family.
* Act as a primary nurse in the assessment of needs and planning of the patients' care.
You will be working within a multi-disciplinary team, providing care and support to patients with complex and sometimes challenging behaviours. You will help improve patients' quality of life by ensuring their needs are met and that each person is always treated with dignity and respect.
We are seeking psychologically minded, compassionate nurses who share the trust's aim to work alongside the people we support.
Main duties of the job
* Deliver a high standard of evidence-based inpatient nursing care in the designated clinical setting in partnership with the team, the service users and where appropriate their family.
* Act as a primary nurse in the assessment of needs and planning of the patients' care.
* Work as part of the nursing team in ensuring that the patients are supported utilizing your skills and experience as a mental health nurse enhancing the patient's safety and experience in an adult/children's acute hospital environment.
* Provide and develop, in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team and other relevant agencies, a high-quality service for patients and carers that takes into account individuals' physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs.
* Work within a team of nurses and other professionals who are committed to the delivery of a quality service.
* Adopt a flexible approach to hours of duty, to meet the needs of the service throughout the duration of the shift.
* Take charge of a designated clinical area and deputize as appropriate.
* Represent the clinical team perspective at multidisciplinary meetings and clinical reviews of patient care.
* Contribute to and ensure a therapeutic and safe environment is maintained whilst on duty for patients, staff & visitors; be an active participant in the multi-disciplinary team, formulating care plans and utilizing appropriate assessments.

Job responsibilities
* Undertake assessments of individuals and their families and carers as appropriate admitted to inpatient care, including service users presenting with high risk.
* Develop care plans and discharge plans in collaboration with the service user and their families and carers.
* Participate in the daily Board rounds to ensure the patients' needs are discussed and escalations are undertaken as appropriate.
* In conjunction with the multi-disciplinary teams, assess and manage risks as identified through assessment. Regularly review risk factors and work in conjunction with the MDT to modify care plans.
* Act as the Primary Nurse for the duration of the shift.
* Ensure that clinical practice is evidenced based and consistent with relevant NICE guidelines and Trust policies and procedures.
* Maintain and contribute to standards of professional care, ethics, policies, and procedures.
* Ensure that all clinical records are maintained and that other systems and good practice, such as handovers, occur for all staff to communicate effectively.
* Provide therapeutic interventions for patients with complex mental health needs ensuring that they are supported whilst in an acute hospital organisation.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* RMN with current NMC registration
* Studying toward Diploma/Degree
Experience
* Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and Care Programme Approach
